Last October I was contacted by someone who inquired about using some of my potion labels in their miniature Halloween-themed townhouse. Of course I was more than thrilled to have my work featured in the project! Here are some quick snapshots they took of the progress they’ve made. How cool is this?

More photos to come! Thank you so much Gayle, I feel honored to be a part of such a unique and imaginative display! Oh what I’d give to curl up on a chair in there.

Maple Pumpkin Cake w/ Pumpkin Shavings…. Yes please!

I’ve edited this post to include a recipe for this scrumptious dessert due to popular request. I’ve found numerous ones online as well! Recipe posted after the jump!

Ingredients:

3 cups sifted cake flour, sifted shopping list
2 tsp baking powder shopping list
1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon shopping list
1 tsp baking soda shopping list
1 tsp ground ginger shopping list
1/2 teaspoon salt shopping list
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice shopping list
1 tsp cake spice (mix of cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice) shopping list
1 tsp freshly grated nutmeg shopping list
2 cups sugar shopping list
1 cup canola oil or vegetable oil shopping list
4 large eggs shopping list
15 oz pure pumpkin (1 can) shopping list
1/2 tsp vanilla extract shopping list
1 tsp maple extract

Preperation:

Preheat oven to 350°F.
Butter and flour two 9-inch-diameter cake pans with 2″ sides (even better, use Baker’s Joy).
Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and spices except for nutmeg into large bowl. Grate nutmeg and add to other dry ingredients. Stir to mix well.
Beat sugar and oil in large bowl until well blended with electric mixtuer, about 2 minutes.
Add eggs 1 at a time, beating well after each addition.
Add pumpkin, maple, and vanilla; beat until blended. Gradually add dry ingredients; beat just until incorporated.
Divide batter between prepared pans.
Bake cake until a skewer inserted into center comes out with just a few crumbs, about 30 minutes.
Cool in pans ~20min. Finish cooling on wire rack.
Frost with your choice of icing, a cream cheese frosting with maple flavoring is a nice touch. Decoration with candied nuts like pecans or walnuts adds a tasty texture. In the above photo they used pumpkin fudge shavings to adorn the top of the cake.

While browsing the forums of DoomBuggies, a tribute to Disney’s Haunted Mansion attraction, I discovered a post discussing what The Mansions kitchen and bathroom might look like. These concept sketches by the one and only Marc Davis are great!

Halloween Weddings

Now, it does seem like a dramatic change from your average traditional white wedding. Most people probably think gothic, blood, metal studs and the like. However, a Halloween wedding can truly be a beautiful thing. Just look at these inspiration collages.

Now I just need to find a that special lady that doesn’t mind this type of look. What are your thoughts on a Halloween styled wedding? Would you do it? What’s your vision of one? If your significant other isn’t up to this, then you could easily coalesce these ideas into a Halloween party.
