Saw these posted on a blog recently and instantly began thinking of what ghoulish entrée I could create with them. They’re called Fiddlehead Ferns (wiki). I’ve never seen them at the local grocery store or farmer’s market so I think they’re hard to come by. Learn more about them here and on wikipedia. Roasted centipede anyone?
I've only seen fiddleheads in a M. Stewart mag, so be default they MUST be hard to find! I hear they're quite tender and tasty. Great-looking recipe.

Fiddlehead ferns are everywhere. In scotland anyway. If you go to any wood you should find them.
I live in a wooded area of northern Illinois and have a whole grove of ferns near my house. I would never in a million years have thought you could eat the fiddleheads! Guess I'll have to give 'em a try!
